CRD Perinatal Counselling Program
The CRD Perinatal Counselling Program provides counselling to parents and expecting parents who are experiencing a clinical depression, anxiety or a mental health adjustment disorder within 9 months of giving birth, or during the pregnancy. It is for people who have not already received counselling in the current perinatal period, and who do not have extended health insurance to get clinical counselling.
The program is made possible by the generous funding of a private donor in our community. Program services are delivered by McGee Therapy & Consulting Inc and associated clinical counsellors.
The program widens access to counselling for parents with a new or soon-to-be born baby in the Capital Regional District (CRD). It provides service to individuals and couples with a need and desire to address a mental health disorder with the assistance of a clinical counsellor. The program enables more parents to better and more quickly work through the prenatal and postparum mental health disorder they are currently facing. It advances the mental well-being of parents which sets them up to give their baby a better start in life.
Clients must be referred to the program using the program referral form. A referral can only be made by one of the following primary health care providers in the Capital Regional District:
- nurse practitioners
On the program referral form, information marked as required must be provided before eligibility can be confirmed and the person to receive service can be contacted to book an appointment.
The availability of counselling sessions through the program subject to the availability of founded counselling hours at a particular time. Availability is also limited to elidible individuals and couples whose circumstances and needs fit the purposes of the program.
